Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) is an infectious and potentially fatal viral disease of horses. No vaccine or treatment exists for the disease and is transmitted by biting insects. It is reportable disease and it is required that all horses be tested for it. The test is called “Coggins” test.
It’s important to follow the law and get your horse a Coggins test whenever it is moving across state lines, going to an event, or boarding. Each state has its own regulations, so be sure to ask your vet.
Here at Scenic City Vet, we offer digital coggins. Digital Coggins allows for faster turnaround with digital pictures of your individual horse and these records can be emailed to you directly for storage. This enables horse owners to view online and print their Coggins tests anytime that they are needed. We add photographs of your individual horse when we draw blood for Coggins testing.
Have you ever left home and realized half way to your destination that you forgot your Coggins and/or health certificate? Digital coggins allows you to access your important documents anywhere!
For more Coggins information and helpful links for traveling with your horse, be sure to always check with the state, show, or stable you are traveling to for specific Coggins requirements.
